product description
Nina Ricci • French Revolution Gold Phrygian Cap Clip On Earrings with La Cocarde Tricolore • New on Original Display Card A striking pair of gold Nina Ricci earrings, featuring the distinctive symbols of the French Revolution. Nina Ricci, married to a jeweller, worked as a couturier in Paris for twenty years before she began designing under her own name in 1932. Much like the clothing, her jewellery and accessories have an air of refined femininity. The Phrygian cap, was a red cap that began to be associated with the French Revolution in 1789. By 1791 it had become de rigueur for sans-culotte militants to wear one to show their loyalty and was widely used in propaganda. By 1792 it had been adopted by the government as an official symbol of the revolutionary state and has been resurrected at various moments of tension in French political history, right into the twentieth century. Details •Nina Ricci •Gold plated earrings. •Clip on •Shaped like a phrygian cap. •Red, white and blue enamel decoration •Stamped Nina Ricci on the reverse side of the brooch Condition •Brand new on the original display card *May contain nickel.
